NCeSS Nodes

MeRC builds on five years’ experience of operating the coordinating Hub of the UK–wide National Centre for e–Social Science. The Hub team, under the direction of Peter Halfpenny and Rob Procter, was responsible for the design and oversight of NCeSS’s research and dissemination strategies. The Hub prepared the specification for both of the two phases of calls for research Node proposals and played a key role on the commissioning panels, ensuring that the selected proposals formed a coherent portfolio and that the individual Nodes’ workplans were well–articulated and feasible.
The Hub promoted synergies between the Nodes and between NCeSS and the National Centre for Research Methods, and also aligned the work of NCeSS with that of other analogous initiatives such as the National e-Science Centre, the National Grid Service and OMII–UK. The Hub closed on 30 September 2009. The work of the eight second phase Nodes, each of three years’ duration, continues. Find out more about them from the links below:
